Migration and the Collapse of SpaceThis project is a modeling of domesticity in migration. Drawings and models attempt to represent the transformative character of the migrant’s domestic boundary. Three suitcases contain a potential domestic environment. Fragments of a bed (a place to sleep), a chest of drawers (a place to store one’s possessions), and a chair (a place to eat or work) unfold to re-create a room. But the objects are not completely there. Like the migrant, we fill in the voids to re-create his room. For a moment it exists in our mind. (Published in Threshold 20) |
