Bentz Apartment, New York CityThis apartment is populated by a series of built in furniture pieces whose collective function is to illuminate and expand the space. These are located at the boundaries of the apartment, where one space overlaps into another. The only source of natural light is a wall of windows located 3 feet above the outside sidewalk, creating a conflict between the need for natural light and maintaining privacy. Directly in front of the window in the living room, is the stair leading to the downstairs bedroom. Trough the use of translucent glass and open risers, it simultaneously acts as a screen and a light well. |
